Daisy Flowers

 Supplies:
Punches: Giant Daisy, Small Sun (Punch Bunch) … or similar punches
Accessories & Tools: Mat (or mouse pad), stylus, tweezers, glue

Instructions:

Punch three giant daisies from white cardstock
Punch nine small suns from contrasting-colored cardstock (approx.) – depends on how tightly you roll the suns as to how many you need to fill the center of the daisy

Shaping and assembling flowers:

Pinch each petal from the three daisy flowers. You can use your fingers to pinch them upwards, or I find it easiest to use my tweezers. Place tweezers down center of petal, holding end of tweezers steady with thumb, gently pinch the petal sides upwards around the tweezers – this creates a crease in the center and gives each petal dimension. 

Note: If making a coneflower, pinch the petals backwards (see example of pink coneflower on sample cards above)

Add dimension to the flowers by molding the centers on your mat or mouse pad using a ball stylus. Press with the stylus in the center area, in a circular motion (this is called “cupping”)

Add a small dab of glue to the center of the one daisy and place a second daisy on top, offsetting it slightly. Press on the center with your stylus or tweezers to hold down for a few seconds until the glue sets.

Add a small dab of glue to the center of the two-layer daisy and place the third daisy on top, offsetting the petals so that they are in the middle of the open space between the two layers. Press on the center with your stylus or tweezers to hold down for a few second until the glue sets.

Mold each sun punch with your mat and stylus (press in a rolling, circular motion on the center of the sun - “cupping”). This breaks down the fibers, softening the cardstock so it is easier to manipulate. Note: to make the flower centers extra “spikey”, you can cut each ray in half (optional).

Make one cut into each sun, just past center

Use your tweezers to grasp the cut edge of the sun and twist the sun into a cone shape. You can add a small dab of glue to secure the cone shape ... or I find pinching the cone shape together with a little pressure, holds it together and then I make sure the open edge is at the bottom when I glue them to the center of the flower – either works well

Create a ring of glue in the center of your daisy

Add eight cone-shaped suns in a ring, placing them in the glue by laying them on their sides with the point towards the center of the flower. Make sure to leave a small open space in the middle of the flower. Depending on how tightly you twist the suns, you may need more or less suns to complete the ring

Add a dab of glue in the center of the flower and add the final cone-shaped sun to the center, making sure it stands upright. Gently push all the cones together to form a tight center
